Is Whiteboard Hero really a free product?
Yes, Whiteboard Hero is a free product.
What version should I download?
The short version: Use the “Installer” version, unless you are unable to install software on your device.
The installer version offers a better and more integrated experience, is recommended for most users. This version is required to be installed on your device and often requires elevated permissions to install.
The standalone version is suitable for users wishing to use Whiteboard Hero without installation. This is designed for users in school or corporate environments where software cannot be installed on a device. This version requires the .exe file provided to launch the application each time and lacks the prerequisite packages to ensure suitability with older operating systems.
I receive a warning when downloading/ installing, is Whiteboard Hero safe?
We take every precaution to ensure Whiteboard Hero is safe to use and does not contain any viruses or malware. However Microsoft Windows (SmartScreen) or Google Chrome may display an error similar to “Downloaded file may be/is unsafe”. If your receive this error, it can be often bypassed by selecting “download anyway”.
As Whiteboard Hero is a brand new product, it will take some time for us to build up a reputation with Microsoft or Google and as a result they will often show this message.
If you are in a school or corporate environment, you may be blocked from installation due to these warnings. In this case, speak to your IT administrator.
When installing, the publisher is listed as “Scarecrow And Woodman” – Is this safe to install?
Scarecrow and Woodman is the legal name associated with Shaping Minds and is the publisher name listed when we digitally sign our products, so in-short nothing to worry about.
Is internet access required to use Whiteboard Hero?
No, while the application does use the internet to check for new versions – this is completely optional. Users without internet will receive a connectivity warning as Whiteboard Hero attempts to check for new version, however the application will otherwise operate without issue.
What version of Windows is Whiteboard Hero compatible with?
Whiteboard Hero has been tested against the following operating systems:
- Windows 11
- Windows 10 (Post May 2021 Update)
Earlier versions of Windows 10 may work, however this has not been tested so may cause some compatibility issues.
I’m having issues installing or running Whiteboard Hero on my device
As Whiteboard Hero is a free product, we don’t offer direct support to users attempting to install. However we’ve included some tips below to assist you with installation.
Ensure operating system compatibility
Ensure you are installing on a compatible operating system as per the list available in the FAQ section of this page.
If you don’t know what version of Windows you are running this can be accessed be searching “System Information” via the start menu.
Standalone version
If you are having trouble running the standalone version, try to use the installer version as this is bundled with the relevant prerequisite packages.
INSTALLER VERSION
If you are having trouble installing the “Installer” version in a school or corporate environment, this may be due to security restrictions on your device. If this is the case, use the “Standalone” version as this does not require installation.
School Or Corporate Environments
School or corporate devices will often have various security restrictions limiting how software can be installed or operate.
If you security restrictions prevent you from installing software on your devices, try the “Standalone” version of the application as this does not require installation.

How am I allowed to use Whiteboard Hero?
You are free to use Whiteboard Hero for private, commercial or educational use however.
